ABBYY Europe, a leading provider of technologies and services for document recognition, data capture, and linguistics, is intensifying its collaboration with the ECM manufacturer OPTIMAL SYSTEMS.

In the future, ABBYY’s OCR technology will become an integral part of the enaio® Enterprise Content Management solution from OPTIMAL SYSTEMS. With ABBYY FineReader Engine 11, OPTIMAL SYSTEMS takes text recognition of digital documents and their conversion to PDF/A to a new level in its ECM solution.

ABBYY offers developers access to innovative document recognition and conversion technologies with the ABBYY FineReader Engine 11 Software Development Kit. By integrating the OCR toolkit, software manufacturers and integrators can extend their applications with many different functions via an API, creating attractive added value for their customers.

Thanks to the implementation of OCR technology, the enaio® Enterprise Content Management software suite from OPTIMAL SYSTEMS provides powerful capabilities for high-quality text recognition of digitized documents and receipts, as well as all types of PDFs. Any image document scanned by enaio® or stored in the system is automatically recognized via OCR and converted to a PDF/A document. Converting scanned documents into searchable documents (with an “invisible” text layer added under the actual document image), makes it easier for enaio® users to retrieve all documents using full text search. In addition, a semantic assignment of documents to individual categories (e.g. finance), document types (such as invoices), and year can be performed based on text recognition and image- and text-based classification technology. Thanks to the integration of the latest version of the ABBYY FineReader Engine, enaio® now achieves significantly higher recognition accuracy, reliable classification of documents, and easier conversion of documents into PDF/A. So users of the OPTIMAL SYSTEMS ECM suite spend less time reviewing documents and can focus on their core tasks.

“Integrating the latest version of the ABBYY FineReader SDK brings real added value to our customers,” says Gregor Wolf, Head of Product Management at OPTIMAL SYSTEMS. “All relevant documents are now available to the user in enaio® when they perform a full text search. Thanks to easy conversion to PDF/A-1, PDF/A-2, and PDF/A-3, all documents can be archived for long periods in accordance with the ISO standard, while advanced MRC compression saves valuable storage space. On top of that, our customers also benefit from simplified licensing.”

ABBYY FineReader Engine 11 is part of the Software Development Kits (SDKs) product line, which allows developers to integrate ABBYY OCR technologies into customer applications and enterprise backend systems. These are available for a variety of platforms, including Windows, Linux, OS X, and mobile platforms such as Android and iOS, in addition to a cloud OCR service with API.
