More time for patient care - huge benefits for doctors and patients

bpi solutions and OPTIMAL SYSTEMS Introduce Digital Medical Records in the New Clinical Center in Rüdersdorf

Immanuel Diakonie GmbH, a holding of several organizations in the health-care and social sector, entrusted bpi solutions and OPTIMAL SYSTEMS with the introduction of an Enterprise Content Management System (ECM). The focus is on solutions for archived medical records, digital medical records and the automated processing of incoming invoices.

In the framework of the overall project, three hospitals and a rehabilitation facility will be equipped with the custom-tailored health-care solution provided by OPTIMAL SYSTEMS. Archived medical records were introduced when the patients moved to the new building of Immanuel Klinik Rüdersdorf at the end of last year.

The Immanuel Diakonie Group provides an important range of medical and social functions. They range from oncology, gynecology and obstetrics to pediatrics and surgery, from the internal medicine department where rheumatics are treated and the cardio-center where comprehensive treatments are administered with state-of-the-art cardiologic and cardiac services to the psychiatric ward, and from addiction assistance and care of the elderly to family, life, social and housing counseling services. With 65 different institutions and about 2,300 employees the Immanuel Diakonie Group represents an important network of non-governmental public welfare organizations in the Berlin-Brandenburg region, in Thuringia and in Styria/Austria.

With the new IT solutions a new era will begin in the new building of Immanuel Klinik Rüdersdorf. This means the holding is another giant step closer to the aim of centrally managing all the information and documents collected in the clinic and the integration of the according medical and administrative systems. As a commercial enterprise the Immanuel Diakonie GmbH also has to administer a great amount of documents and information besides medical documents. This is why an electronic archiving system for archiving e-mails and files will be introduced along with archived medical records and electronic personnel files. In addition the board has opted for optimizing processes by means of an incoming-invoices workflow with automated readout of invoices in accounting. Decisive criteria for choosing OPTIMAL SYSTEMS software solution have been the deep integration into the existing IT infrastructure like SAP i.s.h.med and HIM QCare plus the long-term experience and the valuable know-how of bpi solutions and OPTIMAL SYSTEMS as system integrators.

This is not only a matter of technical feasibility. The main idea is to guarantee perfectly organized, top-level medical care for in- and out-patients. Now, with the press of a button, doctors dispose of the medical record of the hospital information system plus all documents belonging to the patient data and multimedia-based objects. Automatic processing of incoming invoices is to lead to more productivity of administrative processes in the commercial area. Direct access to archived documents from known applications allows the efficient organization of business processes.

The new integrated solution supports the continuous improvement of the process quality in the medical and the commercial areas. As a first step modern records management and a comprehensive management of all documents in Rüdersdorf have been realized. Further steps will be taken at the following hospitals: Evangelisch-Freikirchliches Krankenhaus in Bernau, Rehabilitationsklinik Märkische Schweiz and Immanuel Krankenhaus in Berlin in order to further increase the measurable economic benefit in the competition for quality and service.
